Every private individual or legal entity can apply to receive information about violations of trade regulations and court rulings on penalties for violations of trade regulations that are recorded in the Central Company Register, provided that these concern your person or your business. Information contained within the Central Company Register is required for many permit application procedures.

The information listed in the Central Company Register will be issued by the Federal Office of Justice (Bundesamt für Justiz).

This information can be requested by any natural person aged 18 years or over. The administrative office (local council) of your place of residence is responsible for providing this information. The information cannot be requested by a third party.

Information contained within the Central Company Register can also be requested by a legal entity. The application needs to be made to the authority responsible for the location in which the company is headquartered (the town/city in which the company is entered into the Company Register). The request must be made by the legal representative of the company.

The most common types of Central Company Register information include:

  • for personal use: The information from the Central Company Register will be sent directly to your home address.
    (official reference: document 1)
  • for official use: The information from the Central Company Register will be sent directly to the authorities.
Who should I contact?
You can request information, including information to be sent directly to an authority, via this link to the online portal of the Federal Office of Justice (Bundesamt für Justiz). To make your request online, you will need the new type of personal ID card or an electronic residency permit, both of which need to have the e-ID function activated. You will also need a card reader device.

The application can also be made in person at the administrative offices of your commune, city, or administrative collectivity.

Which documents do I need?
  • For a certificate for official purposes: Address of the public authority and the reason why the certificate is needed, or the internal reference number
  • Maiden name of the mother
  • Person ID card/passport and residency certificate issued by the administrative office of your place of residence
What fees do I need to pay?
You will need to pay a fee of 13.00 euros.

What are the deadlines?
The Federal Office of Justice (Bundesamt für Justiz) usually issues the information within one week. However, delays in postal services can mean that the requested information takes longer to arrive. For urgent requests, please contact the local administrative authorities in your place of residence or town/city of your company headquarters.

If you are applying to the PSC for an extract from the German Central Company Register, please apply for this as described and upload the document or supporting evidence for the application during the online application process.
